Ion Voicu, a renowned Romanian violinist and conductor, was born on October 8, 1923, in Bucharest, Romania.

Early Life and Training

Beginning his musical journey at the tender age of six, Voicu inherited a rich 200-year-old musical heritage. With Gypsy agility, he completed the seven-year curriculum of the Bucharest Royal Academy of Music in just two years under the tutelage of Professor George Enăcovici. Voicu later honed his skills with Romanian maestro George Enescu and David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatory.

A Global Ambassador

Over a span of 55 years, Voicu embarked on countless concert tours worldwide. His vast repertoire spanned from forgotten masterpieces to new works commissioned specifically for him.

Teaching and Mentoring

Voicu dedicated himself to nurturing young talent, conducting master classes at prestigious institutions such as the Mozarteum in Salzburg and conservatories in Paris, Nice, Geneva, Lausanne, Vienna, and the Menuhin International Academy. He also served as a juror at international competitions.

Bucharest Philharmonic and Chamber Orchestra

For a decade, Voicu served as the General Director of the George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest. In 1969, he founded the Bucharest Chamber Orchestra, a highly acclaimed ensemble now led by his son, Medeelin Voicu.

International Foundation

As a testament to his legacy, Voicu established the Ion Voicu International Foundation in 1995. Inaugurated in the presence of Yehudi Menuhin, its honorary president, the Foundation aims to support gifted young musicians in Romania and abroad. Ion's son, Medeelin Voicu, now serves as its president.
