Biography of Josef Bican
Josef Bican was an outstanding Austrian and Czechoslovak football player, known for his incredible speed and goal-scoring abilities. Born on September 25, 1913, in Austria, he played as a forward and is considered one of the best forwards in the history of European football.
Club Career
Bican played for several clubs throughout his career, including Hertha Vienna, Schustek Vienna, Farbenlutz Vienna, Rapid Vienna, Admira Vienna, Slavia Prague, Vitkovice Zeljezarny, and Spartak Hradec Kralove. He also had coaching stints with Dynamo Prague, Slovan Liberec, Spartak Brno, Banik Pribram, and Kladno.
During his club career, Bican played a total of 341 matches and scored 518 goals in league matches. He achieved numerous titles and records, including being the all-time leading goalscorer for Slavia Prague with 447 goals.
National Team Career
Bican represented both Austria and Czechoslovakia in international competitions. He played for the Austrian national team from 1933 to 1936, scoring 14 goals in 19 matches. He then played for the Czechoslovak national team from 1938 to 1949, scoring 12 goals in 14 matches.
Legacy
Josef Bican's goal-scoring record of over 5000 goals remains a world record to this day. He is considered one of the greatest football players of all time, known for his exceptional speed, technique, and ability to score goals. In 1997, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics named him the joint "King of Goals" of the 20th century, alongside Pelé and Uwe Seeler.
On December 12, 2001, Josef Bican passed away at the age of 88. His contributions to the world of football and his remarkable achievements continue to be remembered and celebrated by football fans worldwide.
