Biography of Irene Rosenfeld

Irene Rosenfeld is an American executive who serves as the chairman and CEO of Mondelēz International. Born in 1953, this highly successful woman has achieved many accomplishments throughout her career.

Education and Early Career

Irene Rosenfeld graduated from Cornell University in 1975 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She then went on to earn a Master's degree in Business in 1977 and a Doctorate in Marketing Research and Statistics in 1980.

Her career began with her work at the advertising agency Dancer Fitzgerald Sample, where she conducted marketing research for General Foods. This marked the beginning of her collaboration with Kraft Foods. Rosenfeld also conducted consumer research while working for General Foods.

In the late 1980s, Rosenfeld worked at Country Time Lemonade as a junior manager. By 1991, she had advanced to the position of Executive Vice President and General Manager of the beverage sales division. In 1996, Rosenfeld joined Kraft Foods as the President of the Canadian division.

Leadership at Kraft Foods

In 2000, Rosenfeld's responsibilities expanded to include oversight of technology, procurement, and other operations. Just a year later, she also gained control over the operations of Kraft Foods' subsidiaries in Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Over the years, Rosenfeld actively proposed and promoted new ideas, many of which were successfully implemented, elevating the company's status. In 2001, she also suggested the sale of company shares.

Rosenfeld has been an employee of Kraft Foods for over 12 years, occupying various leadership positions. She has successfully led numerous industrial development and reconstruction projects in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. One of her most successful projects was the integration and acquisition of Nabisco.

Leadership at Frito-Lay and Kraft Foods

In 2004, Rosenfeld was offered the position of Chairman and CEO of the Frito-Lay division at PepsiCo. She successfully restructured the company and directed its focus towards producing "better-for-you" products. In June 2006, she assumed the role of CEO for the entire Kraft Foods company and in February 2007, she became the President of the Board of Directors.

Interview Insights

When asked about her childhood dream, Rosenfeld revealed that she had partially achieved it by becoming a CEO. Her favorite product from Kraft Foods is macaroni and cheese. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano and rollerblading.
