Early Life and Youth Career
Irfan Bachdim was born on August 11, 1988, in Amsterdam, Netherlands, to an Indonesian father and a Dutch mother. He began his football career in the youth academy of Ajax, before moving to Argon in Utrecht three years later.
Utrecht and Haarlem
Bachdim quickly caught the attention of Utrecht scouts and joined the club's youth team. In 2008, he was promoted to the first team but made only one appearance in the Eredivisie. The following season, he spent mostly with the reserve team.
In July 2009, Bachdim joined Eerste Divisie club Haarlem as a free agent. He made his debut on August 14 against MVV but was unable to prevent a 2-0 defeat. However, in the following match against Emmen, Bachdim scored his first goal and helped Haarlem achieve their first victory of the season.
Financial Troubles and the Search for a New Club
In early November, Haarlem faced financial problems, and Bachdim mutually agreed to terminate his contract. He played 12 matches for Haarlem, scoring once.
Return to Indonesia
In 2010, Bachdim traveled to Indonesia with his father to find a new club. He expressed his desire to play in Indonesia to be closer to the national team. However, he failed to secure a contract with Persija Jakarta and returned to Amsterdam.
