Biography of Irina-Camelia Begu

Irina-Camelia Begu is a Romanian tennis player. She was born in 1990 in Bucharest, Romania, to parents Paul and Steluța Begu. She has a brother named Andrei. Begu started playing tennis at the age of 3, under the guidance of her aunt, Aura Wagner, a tennis coach.

Professional Career

Begu's professional career began in 2005. As of August 2011, she had earned a total of $244,178 in prize money. Her preferred playing surfaces are clay and hard courts. Begu is trained by Marius Comanescu.

Achievements

Begu considers her first significant victory to be the European Junior Championship for 16-year-olds, which she won in Italy in 2006. In the same year, she was ranked 974th in singles and 821st in doubles. In 2007, Begu reached the semifinals of the junior doubles category at the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament.

By the end of 2010, Begu's singles ranking had risen to 214, while her doubles ranking reached 157. In 2011, Begu earned her first $100,000 at an ITF tournament in Cali, Colombia, defeating Laura Pous Tió, who was ranked 82nd in the world at the time.
