Biography of Isaac Friedberg

Isaac Isaevich Friedberg was a writer, film director, and playwright. He was born in Vilnius, USSR. Friedberg began his creative career in 1962 at the Vilnius National Jewish Theater, where he participated in the reconstruction of S. Mikhoyels' play "Freylekhs" ("Nikolaev Soldier") and played the role of Leyb Rafalovich in the play "Wandering Stars" based on the works of Sholem Aleichem. In 1969, he graduated from the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute and worked as a radio engineer from 1969 to 1971. He then served in the army for two years. Friedberg started publishing in periodicals in 1970.

Career as a Screenwriter and Director

In 1981, Isaac Friedberg graduated from the Higher Courses for Screenwriters and Directors of Goskino USSR, studying under the master workshop of Eldar Ryazanov. As a screenwriter, he contributed to the creation of feature films such as "Nest in the Wind" (1978), "Wish Me Non-Flying Weather" (1978), "Forest Violets" (1979), as well as documentary films like "We Are Men, Mama" (1973) and "I Love the Director" (1979). As a director, Friedberg directed feature films based on his own scripts, including "Collision" (1983), "Dear Edison!" (1986), and "A Stroll on the Gallows" (1991). In 1988, his controversial film "Puppet" was released, directed by Friedberg based on a screenplay by I. Ageev, titled "An Unsporting Story."

Other Works and Achievements

Isaac Friedberg was also the author of the collection "Quiet Holidays" (1977) and the novella "Here I Am!" (1996). In 1992, he released the documentary film "Artists of the Jewish Diaspora. Russia. 20th Century." From 1996 to 1997, he served as the author, artistic director, and chief director of the television program "An Axe Floats Down the River...". In 2003, Isaac Friedberg worked as a director on the adventure series "Russian Amazons."
