Biography of Rabbi Itzhak Ginsburgh

Rabbi Itzhak Ginsburgh (born 1944) is an Israeli rabbi, renowned Kabbalist, and representative of the Chabad movement. He is known for his books and lectures on Judaism and for his unwavering stance against territorial concessions by Israel. Ginsburgh has published over 60 books in Hebrew and English, covering a wide range of topics including Jewish family life, child upbringing, the Messiah and redemption, Kabbalah, and psychology.

Born in St. Louis, USA, Ginsburgh studied mathematics and philosophy in his youth. He earned his first degree from the University of Chicago and a second degree in mathematics from the Belfer School. At the age of 14, he underwent a spiritual transformation and devoted himself to the study of Torah.

In 1965, Ginsburgh made aliyah to Israel and studied at the Kamenitz Yeshiva in Jerusalem before spending some time in Tiberias. After the Six-Day War, he returned to Jerusalem and, along with his future father-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Segal, became one of the first residents of the Jewish Quarter. During this time, he delved deeply into the literature of Chabad Hasidism. In the same year, he visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneerson, and spent several months with him. Upon his return to Israel, Ginsburgh married and began teaching Talmud, Shulchan Aruch, and Chasidut to a group of students in Jerusalem.

Until the Israeli Defense Forces' withdrawal from Shechem in 2001, Rabbi Ginsburgh led the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in Shechem and the kollel in Jericho. Today, the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva has been reestablished in Itamar. Since 1970, he has resided with his family in Kfar Chabad.
