Victor Atanasie Stănculescu: A Romanian Politician and General

Victor Atanasie Stănculescu was a Romanian politician and general in the Romanian Army.

Early Activism and Education

In his early years, Stănculescu was a party activist and a teacher. He received his higher education at the Military Officer School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) and subsequently served in the ministry.

Rise in the MVD

Stănculescu steadily rose through the ranks of the MVD, holding the position of Head of the Military Officer School from 1974 to 1977. From 1977 to 1984, he served as State Secretary of the MVD, and from 1984 to 1987, he was Assistant Minister of Internal Affairs.

Head of the MVD and Securitate

In 1987, Stănculescu became Head of the MVD and the Department of State Security, known as the Securitate. He held this position until 1989.

Arrest and Imprisonment

On December 31, 1989, following the Romanian Revolution, Stănculescu was arrested and sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in suppressing protests.

Release

After serving four years of his sentence, Stănculescu was released on December 31, 1993.
