Victor Stănculescu: Romanian General and Politician

Early Life and Career

Victor Atanasie Stănculescu was a Romanian politician and general. He held numerous positions in the Romanian government, including Minister of Internal Affairs.

Securitate Service

During the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu, Stănculescu served in the Securitate, the Romanian secret police. His role within the organization is not fully known.

Romanian Revolution

After the Romanian Revolution of 1989, Stănculescu played a key role in the formation of the new government. He served as Minister of Internal Affairs in the first post-revolutionary government led by Petre Roman from December 28, 1989, to June 14, 1990.

Timișoara Uprising

Stănculescu was accused of involvement in the violent suppression of the Timișoara Uprising in the final days of Ceaușescu's rule. He was convicted of crimes against humanity in 2006 and sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Legacy
