Early Life and Education
Yuval Lamay, better known by her stage name YUVY, was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, on November 15, 1993. She grew up in a creative household, where she pursued interests in gymnastics, drawing, and piano lessons. In her teenage years, she found her passion in dance, studying modern, ballet, and jazz at a local dance studio. After high school, her studies were briefly interrupted by service in the Israeli Defense Forces, an experience that instilled discipline and organization in her life.
Return to Dance and Road to 'Dances'
Following her military service, Lamay rededicated herself to dance. She honed her versatile skills in contemporary, high heels, dancehall, and fusion, expanding her knowledge by joining the Cocktail of Madness crew. As a choreographer, she led master classes and worked with the dance team for the Israeli version of the 'X-Factor' talent show.
In 2018, Yuvy learned about auditions for the fifth season of the Russian dance competition 'Dances' on THT. She successfully made it through the pre-castings and was invited to compete in Moscow. Her captivating hip-hop performance earned unanimous approval from the judges, setting her on the path to success in the competition.
'Dances' Journey and Success
Under the mentorship of renowned choreographer Yegor Druzhinin, Lamay became a top contender in the competition. She captivated audiences with her expressive performances and heartfelt storytelling. Her chemistry with fellow dancer Sasha Li, which culminated in a three-episode dance narrative with a happy ending in the finale, became a highlight of the season. Yuvy's impressive performances, including collaborations with star dancer Misha Kilimchuk and choreographer Elena Yatkevich, cemented her position as a favorite.
Post-'Dances' Career
Despite placing second to Alexei Letuchy in the final, Yuvy's popularity continued to rise. She embarked on a tour with other contestants, where she forged lasting friendships with Rodika Bucahan and Mikhail Kilimchuk. In 2019, she performed as a backup dancer for Netta Barzilai at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv.
Today, Yuvy remains active in the dance world. She teaches highly sought-after master classes in both Russia and her native Israel. Her infectious energy, dedication to her craft, and captivating presence have made her a respected figure in the global dance community.
