Fiona began applying her skills as a journalist on independent radio stations. She worked as a reporter for stations such as County Sound, Hereward Radio, and Radio Mercury. After a few years, she transitioned from radio journalism to television presenting. She made her debut on the small screen with the BBC South East program called 'Weekend Programme'.

Over time, Fiona's career advanced as she became a reporter for 'CNN News' and eventually one of the leading editors of the station. Under her leadership, she was responsible for editing, producing, and presenting new projects to the audience. In November 2007, rumors circulated that Fiona was offered the position of Minister of Public Health in Gordon Brown's government, along with a peerage. From 1997 to 2008, Fiona became the main presenter of GMTV, hosting the program 'GMTV Today' from Monday to Wednesday. In 2008, she announced her departure from the show for family reasons.
