Early Career and Atlético Madrid

Ivan Cuéllar, a Spanish goalkeeper, honed his skills at the youth academies of Mérida and Madrid. He rose through the ranks ofAtlético Madrid and made his debut for the senior team in 2005. In 2006/07, he appeared in seven matches, including a disappointing 0-6 loss to Barcelona. This would be his final match for the Madrid-based club.

Loan to Éibar

In 2007/08, Cuéllar was loaned to Éibar in the second division. He immediately became the starting goalkeeper, featuring in 38 out of 42 matches. Despite conceding 45 goals, his team finished 13th in the standings.

Sporting Gijón

After the loan spell, Cuéllar was sold to Sporting Gijón, who had just been promoted to the top division. As the backup keeper initially, he received his chance when Sergio Sánchez conceded 19 goals in the first four matches. However, Cuéllar's progress was halted when he suffered a severe ankle injury in December 2008.

Injury Setbacks and Triumphs

Cuéllar returned as a backup in 2009 but faced another major setback with a knee injury in training. He played his first match after the injury in 2010. The 2014/15 season was a turning point in his career as he helped Sporting top the second division with only 21 goals conceded in 36 matches. He earned the Zamora Trophy for the best goalkeeper and was named to the league's Team of the Year.

In the present, Cuéllar is the first-choice goalkeeper for Legánes in La Liga. His experience and leadership have played a vital role in the club's success over the years.
