Early Life and Education

Ivan Iosifovich Vinnik was born on June 22, 1929, in the rural village of Olkhovoe in Ukraine's Poltava Oblast. Raised in a farming family, he pursued a career in engineering, graduating with honors in 1951 from the Kharkiv Mechanical Engineering College as a diesel engine technician.

Shipbuilding Career

Vinnik's professional journey began at the Black Sea Shipbuilding Plant, where he initially served as an assistant foreman. In 1968, he was appointed Chief Constructor of the plant's specialized military shipbuilding division. Under his leadership, the shipyard constructed a remarkable series of aircraft carriers: "Moskva," "Leningrad," "Kiev," "Minsk," "Novorossiysk," "Baku," and "Admiral Kuznetsov."

Vinnik later held various executive positions at the shipyard, including Deputy Director for Metallurgy and Machine Building, and subsequently for Shipbuilding and Production.

Civic Engagement

In addition to his shipbuilding achievements, Vinnik actively participated in civic affairs. He served as a deputy on the Nikolaev City Council for several terms and was recognized as an Honorary Citizen of Nikolaev in 1989.

Retirement and Accolades

Ivan Vinnik currently resides in a modest two-room apartment in Nikolaev, enjoying his retirement. He spends part of his time at his dacha, where he cultivates a passion for growing twelve varieties of grapes.
