Early Life and Education

Ivan Yakovina was born in the Sokolniki district of Moscow, Russia. Despite having Ukrainian ancestry from the city of Sambir in Lviv Oblast, he spent his first three years in Moscow. He frequently relocated with his parents, residing in suburban Moscow, Chisinau, and Saint Petersburg. Yakovina attended several schools before graduating from Moscow Linguistic University with a specialization in Arabic studies.

Journalism Career

Prior to 2014, Yakovina worked as a journalist for the Russian online publication "Lenta.ru." During his time there, he primarily covered international affairs.

Ukrainian Media

Following the raid and takeover of "Lenta.ru" in 2014, Yakovina relocated to Ukraine. He became a journalist and political commentator for the Kyiv-based magazine "Novoye Vremya." Additionally, he has contributed as a columnist for "Aristocrats Radio" and hosted the programs "Mad World" on "24 Channel" and "Worldview" on "NV Radio."

In August 2020, Yakovina moved from "24 Channel" to "Ukraine 24," where he hosted the program "Worldview Today." He ceased his on-air role at "Ukraine 24" in 2021, but continues to contribute as an international commentator for "NV Radio."

Yakovina's primary focus as a journalist is the Russo-Ukrainian conflict. He also closely monitors international politics, with a particular interest in US policy.
