Ivan Zodelava is a Georgian politician and statesman who served as the Mayor of Tbilisi. He was born in 1957 in the city of Tbilisi. In 1978, he graduated from the Engineering and Economics Faculty of Tbilisi State University with a specialization in economics and construction organization. He holds a PhD in Economics and has authored 20 scientific papers and one monograph.
In 1978, Zodelava was admitted to the graduate program at Tbilisi State University. Concurrently, from 1977 to 1981, he worked as a senior laboratory assistant at Tbilisi State University. From September to November 1978, he worked as a senior master at the Construction Management Department of the Ministry of Construction of Georgia. From 1978 to 1981, he was a graduate student at Tbilisi State University.
From 1981 to 1985, Zodelava served as a junior research fellow at Tbilisi State University, and later as the secretary of the university's Komsomol committee. From 1985 to 1988, he worked as the first secretary of the district Komsomol committee in the Ordzhonikidze district of Tbilisi.
From 1988 to 1991, Zodelava served as an instructor in the organizational department of the Tbilisi City Committee of the Communist Party, as well as the secretary of the Ordzhonikidze district committee of the Communist Party. From 1991 to 1996, he was the president of the joint venture "Tbilisi-Link" and "Sakartvelo-Amerikis Partniori".
In April 1996, Zodelava was appointed as the chief of the Tax Inspection of Tbilisi. From July 1996, he was transferred to the position of the First Deputy Prime Minister of the municipality of Tbilisi. In May 1997, he was appointed as the mayor of the city of Poti.
Since August 1998, Zodelava has served as the mayor of Tbilisi. He is married and has two children.
