Early Life and Career Beginnings

Ivanna Sakhno was born on November 14, 1997, in Kyiv, Ukraine, to a family of filmmakers. Her father, Anatoliy Sakhno, is a cinematographer, and her mother, Halyna Kuvivchak-Sakhno, is a director. Sakhno has an older brother named Taras.

As a child, Sakhno aspired to become a taxi driver or a figure skater, but ultimately pursued acting. She made her acting debut in the Ukrainian sitcom "Lesya + Roma" (2005-2008), which gained her recognition in Ukraine.

Transition to Hollywood

In 2013, Sakhno moved to Los Angeles, USA, where she has lived and worked ever since. Her breakthrough role in Hollywood came in Thomas Dunn's low-budget horror film "The Body Tree" (2017). She continued to star in low-budget films such as the science fiction horror "Uncaged" (2017).

Hollywood Breakthrough

Sakhno's recognition in Hollywood reached its peak in 2018 with her roles in two major blockbusters. She played the cadet Vik in "Pacific Rim: Uprising" and the Russian assassin in "The Spy Who Dumped Me."

Pro-Ukrainian Activism

Despite living and working in the US since 2013, Sakhno maintains strong pro-Ukrainian views. She participated in rallies in support of Ukraine during the 2014 Revolution of Dignity and appeared at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 with a sign supporting imprisoned Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov.

Personal Life

In an interview with the "Cinema with Yanina Sokolova" program in 2017, Sakhno revealed that after moving to America with her parents, she has been living separately from them and communicating primarily through text messages. This is due to restrictions imposed by her managers, who feared that speaking Ukrainian with her parents could lead to a Ukrainian accent in her English pronunciation.
