Jack Davenport, an actor, was born in Suffolk, England, United Kingdom, into a family of actors Maria Aitken and Nigel Davenport. After finishing school, he attended Cheltenham College and later studied English literature and film at the University of East Anglia, just like his father. Although Jack completed drama courses, he never seriously pursued acting and instead aspired to work behind the camera. It was his mother who advised him to write a letter to John Cleese, who was working on the film "Fierce Creatures." Jack intended to apply for a job behind the camera but ended up being selected for the role of a zookeeper.

Following his involvement in "Fierce Creatures," he portrayed Miles in "This Life" and also had roles in several American films such as Peter Smith-Kingsley in "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and Commodore Norrington in "Pirates of the Caribbean." Additionally, he played the character Steve in the television series "Coupling." Apart from acting, Jack lends his voice to commercials and audiobooks.

Jack strives to keep his personal life private. On May 6, 2000, he married his girlfriend, who is also an actress, Michelle Gomez. They had been dating for three years before tying the knot.
