American singer
Jackie Evancho is a 10-year-old American singer with a unique soprano voice. She gained fame by participating in the 5th season of the television show "America's Got Talent". On August 10th, she became a global sensation after flawlessly performing Giacomo Puccini's aria "O Mio Babbino Caro". However, she ultimately placed 2nd in the final voting, losing to pop singer Michael Grimm, a decision that many deemed unfair. The judges explained that Jackie had her whole life ahead of her, while this was likely Michael's last and only chance at victory.

Classical crossover
Jackie Evancho sings in a musical style called classical crossover, which combines classical music with elements of pop and rock. Notable representatives of classical crossover include British singer Sarah Brightman and New Zealand singer Hayley Westenra. Jackie continues to hone her skills by taking vocal lessons and learning to play the violin and piano.

Biography
Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho, the second of four children, was born on April 9, 2000, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Michael and Lisa Evancho, have an older son named Jacob, a younger son named Zachary, and a younger daughter named Rachel.
In January 2008, when Jackie was 7 years old, her mother bought the movie "The Phantom of the Opera" on DVD. After watching the film, Jackie began singing songs from the movie, and her voice could be heard constantly in the house. Her mother was amazed by the quality of her singing and her little daughter's voice, so she asked if she wanted to participate in a regional talent competition. Jackie was thrilled, and her parents brought her to the competition just as it was about to start. The 7-year-old girl successfully made it through the initial rounds and semifinals, surpassing 183 other contestants, and finished in 2nd place, winning the audience's choice award. The first place went to a 20-year-old opera singer. Jackie's parents were convinced that their daughter had a rare talent, so they found her a vocal teacher who specialized in working with young performers to protect her unique voice, which some critics already compared to that of Maria Callas, the greatest soprano of the 20th century. Jackie started taking lessons in June 2008.
In November 2009, Michael and Lisa, hoping to help Jackie achieve her dream, paid for the recording of her album "Prelude To A Dream" to showcase her amazing voice. The album has been sold worldwide. Eventually, she participated in other talent competitions and opened her own YouTube channel. In the 2008-2009 season, Jackie became a member of the Children's Festival Chorus of Pittsburgh. Recognizing that she possessed a unique talent, Jackie wants to use her gift to bring joy to everyone who enjoys listening to her. She receives numerous emails every day from people sharing stories of how her singing improves their lives.
Today, the young singer has attracted the attention of many influential people in the music industry, including legendary Canadian singer David Foster and American conductor and composer Tim Janis. Jackie has performed on the same stage as Foster, sang for prominent politicians, performed the national anthem at a home game of the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, and will be performing at Carnegie Hall in December 2010.
