Jackson Avelino Coelho, known as Jajá, was born on August 28, 1986, in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Despite his hometown having a football club named Ipatinga, Jajá began his career at América Mineiro in the state capital, Belo Horizonte.

Stints in Europe

Feyenoord and Westerlo

At age 18, Jajá caught the attention of Dutch scouts, leading to a move to Feyenoord. However, he never played for the first team and was sent on loan to Belgian club Westerlo. In the 2004-2005 season, he appeared in 12 matches and scored one goal.

A Season in Spain and Return to Belgium

The following season, Jajá impressed with 10 goals in 18 matches for Westerlo, earning a transfer to Spanish La Liga club Getafe. He made only two appearances there before being loaned back to Brazil with Flamengo. He later returned to Belgium, playing for Genk and then back at Westerlo, where he scored 4 goals in 9 matches.

Arrival in Ukraine

Contract with Metalist

In early 2008, Jajá signed a 3.5-year contract with Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv at the behest of manager Myron Markevych. He made his debut in the Ukrainian Premier League on March 8, 2008, and scored his first goal for Metalist on March 29, 2008.

Top Scorer and Club Achievements

In the 2007-2008 season, Jajá scored 3 goals in 11 appearances. He became Metalist's top scorer in the 2008-2009 season with 11 goals and extended his contract with the club until 2012. In the 2009-2010 season, he scored 8 goals. Jajá contributed to Metalist's bronze medal finishes in the Ukrainian Premier League in 2008 and 2009.
