Jackie Rosen: Early Life and Education
Jackie Rosen was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Carol Spector and Leonard Spector. Her father served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1979, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Career before Politics
After graduating, Rosen moved to Las Vegas to stay with her parents. She worked at Caesars Palace as a cocktail waitress and at Summa Corporation. In the 1980s, she joined Southwest Gas and eventually started her own business as a management consultant.
Community Involvement and Personal Life
Rosen also earned an Associate of Science degree in computer and information technology from the College of Southern Nevada in 1985. She is a resident of Henderson, Nevada, and is married to a radiologist. She served as president of Reform Congregation Ner Tamid.
Entry into Politics
Inspired by the philosophy of "tikkun olam," Rosen entered politics in 2016 when she was asked by then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid to run for a U.S. House seat in Nevada's 3rd Congressional District. Despite having no prior political experience, Rosen defeated Republican Danny Tarkanian.
Electoral Success
In 2018, Rosen ran as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate from Nevada. She defeated incumbent Republican Senator Dean Heller in a highly competitive race. Her campaign received support from former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden.
