Biography of Alessandra Mussolini
Alessandra Mussolini is an Italian conservative politician, known for her eccentric statements. She was born in Rome as the daughter of Anna Maria Schicolone and Romano Mussolini, the fourth son of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. Her aunt is the famous actress Sophia Loren.
Early Life and Education
Mussolini attended the American Overseas School of Rome from 1976 to 1980. In 1986, she graduated from the University of Rimini with a master's degree in film management.
Personal Life
On October 28, 1989, Mussolini married Mauro Floriani, an officer in the customs police. They have three children together: Caterina, Clarissa, and Romano Floriani, named after Mussolini's grandfather. Mussolini fought for her children to be allowed to carry the Mussolini surname, not only to honor her famous relative but also to assert her rights as a woman. The process was long, exhausting, and expensive, but she ultimately succeeded.
Career
In her youth, Mussolini attempted to become an actress with the support of her aunt, Sophia Loren. She had a minor role in the film "A Special Day," which won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1977. Mussolini also worked as a fashion model and appeared on the covers of Italian (August 1983) and German (November 1983) editions of Playboy magazine.
In 1982, Mussolini released a pop music album called "Amore," featuring romantic songs. The album was only released in Japan and has since become a collector's item.
In 1992, Mussolini shifted her focus to politics and won a seat in the Italian Parliament as a member of the National Alliance party. In 2003, she founded her own party called "Social Initiative," which lasted for three years. Currently, she aligns herself with the right-wing coalition led by Silvio Berlusconi.
In November 2007, Mussolini sparked controversy with her statement that all Romanians were criminals. This led to the dissolution of the nationalist coalition "Identity, Tradition, Sovereignty" in the European Parliament, of which Mussolini was a member.
