Jacob Tierney: A Creative Force in Film and Television
Early Life and CareerJacob Daniel Tierney was born in Montreal on September 26, 1979, to Terry (née Smiley) and Kevin Tierney, a film producer. From Irish and Jewish heritage, Tierney began his acting career at the tender age of six.
Writing and Directing Breakthroughs
In 2002, Tierney stepped behind the camera with his directorial debut, the short film "Dad." Since then, he has written and directed feature films such as "Twist" (2003), which earned him a Genie Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay; "Trotsky" (2009), recognized with two Canadian Comedy Awards and a Genie Award; "Good Neighbours" (2010); and "Preggoland" (2014). He has also directed episodes of the television sitcom "Mr. D" and Gavin Crawford's comedy special "Gavin Crawford's Wild West."
Theatrical Directing
Tierney made his theatrical directing debut in 2015 with the Segal Centre production of Tom Stoppard's "Travesties." He returned to the Segal Centre in 2017 to stage Michael Frayn's "Noises Off."
"Letterkenny" Success
As co-creator, director, and executive producer of the sitcom "Letterkenny," Tierney also portrays the role of Pastor Glen. The series garnered him multiple awards at the 5th Canadian Screen Awards in 2017, including Best Comedy Series. In 2018, Tierney won Canadian Screen Awards for Best Direction, Comedy Series, and Best Writing, Comedy Series, alongside Letterkenny co-creator and star Jared Keeso.
