Early Life and Education

Jahangir Jahangirov was born on July 20, 1921, in Balakhany, Azerbaijan. He began his musical journey by attending the A. Zeynalli Music School and later graduated from the Baku Conservatory.

Musical Career

Jahangirov's musical career spanned a wide range of genres. From 1944 to 1960, he led the choir of the Azerbaijan SSR Committee on Radio and Television, where many of his compositions were first performed. Subsequently, he served as the Artistic Director of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic Society.

Recognition and Awards

Jahangirov's contributions were widely acknowledged. In 1950, he was awarded the Stalin Prize of the third degree. In 1964, he was bestowed the title of People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR.

Classical Compositions

Jahangirov is known for his prolificacy in classical music. His notable works include the vocal-symphonic poem "Beyond the Araks" (1949), suites like "Song of Friendship" (1956), and cantatas such as "Song of Friendship" (1956), "Fuzuli" (1959), "Nasimi" (1973). Among his oratorios are "Sabir" (1962), "Huseyn Javid - 59" (1984), and the Great Victory" (1985).

Operas

Jahangirov's operatic works include "Azad" (1957) and "The Destiny of a Khanende" (1978).

Film Scores

Jahangirov's musical compositions extended to the realm of cinema. He composed music for films including "Kura the Untamed," "Koroghlu," and "The Unconquered Battalion."
