Jaime Alguersuari
Early CareerJaime Alguersuari began his racing career in 2005 in the Italian Formula Junior 1600 series, where he finished third. He also competed in two races of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup for Carlin Motorsport.
Junior Formula Career
In 2006, Alguersuari competed in the Italian Formula Renault and Eurocup championships, finishing 10th and 12th respectively. He also won the Italian Formula Renault Winter Series. The following year, he finished as runner-up in the Italian series to Mika Mäki and fifth in the Eurocup.
In 2008, the Spaniard moved to the British Formula 3 Championship with Carlin Motorsport, alongside teammates Brendon Hartley, Oliver Turvey, and Sam Abay. After a season-long battle with Hartley, Turvey, and Sergio Pérez, Alguersuari won the final three races of the season to secure the championship title. He became the youngest champion in the series' history at 18 years and 203 days.
Debut in Formula 1
In mid-2009, Alguersuari was called up to Formula 1 as a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Toro Rosso, replacing Hartley. Less than two weeks later, he was announced as the replacement for Sébastien Bourdais at Toro Rosso for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
At his debut at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Alguersuari ran last for most of the race, but after a mistake from teammate Sébastien Buemi, he moved up to second last and finished 15th, ahead of Buemi. He became the youngest driver to start a Formula 1 race at the age of 19 years and 125 days, breaking the record set by Mike Thackwell.
