Biography of Jamel Debbouze

Jamel Debbouze is a popular French actor, comedian, and producer of Moroccan origin. He was born in 1975 in Paris, France, to a family of Moroccan immigrants. Shortly after his birth, his family moved back to Morocco and returned to France in 1979. They settled in the Paris suburb of Trappes, where Debbouze spent his childhood. He was the oldest of six children.

In 1990, Debbouze suffered a serious injury while playing in the Paris Metro, resulting in the partial loss of his right hand. Those who have seen him on screen may have noticed that his right hand is always in his pocket. The accident also led to the accidental death of Debbouze's friend, Jean-Paul Admette. Although Debbouze was not charged with intentional murder, the Admette family still holds resentment towards him. In 2004, he had to cancel a planned show due to a protest organized by the family.

In the mid-1990s, Debbouze started working on Radio Nova, hosting a late-night show. In 1996, he made his television debut on the French channel Paris Première. He later appeared on Canal+ and quickly became a favorite among viewers.

Debbouze began his film career in the early 1990s, starting with short films. In 1998, he appeared in the drama "Zonzon" and the comedy "Le ciel, les oiseaux,... et ta mère!" The films that brought Debbouze fame on the big screen were "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" in 2001, where he starred alongside Audrey Tautou, and the adventure film "Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre" in the same year, where he played the lead role. He went on to appear in films such as "Angel-A" in 2005, "Indigènes" in 2006, "Astérix aux jeux olympiques," and "Parlez-moi de la pluie" in 2008, among many others. By 2013, Debbouze had appeared in around 30 films and produced at least five.

Aside from his work in film and television, Debbouze also performs his own shows and is beloved by the French audience. He has been married to actress Mélissa Theuriau since 2008, and they have two children, a son and a daughter.
