James Isbister, a 38-year-old fisherman from the Shetland Islands, shattered a record by catching a colossal six-foot (180+ cm) lingcod using a homemade bait.
Record-Breaking Catch
Isbister embarked on the fishing trip with 'Northmavine Charters,' a local fishing tour operator. The expedition took place on a Saturday afternoon approximately six miles north of Muckle Flugga, the United Kingdom's northernmost point.
After an arduous hour and a half, Isbister reeled in the behemoth. Upon weighing at the fish market, the catch registered an astonishing 67.46 pounds (30.6 kg), eclipsing the previous record by 10 pounds set 23 years ago. To accommodate the massive fish in his mother's freezer, it had to be folded in half.
Scientific Interest
James' catch is awaiting official recognition from the British Record Fish Committee. The Natural History Museum in London has also expressed interest, and the fish will be shipped there for further examination.
