Biography of James Kottak

James Kottak was an American musician, best known as the drummer for the bands Scorpions and Kingdom Come. He was also a guitarist and vocalist for the band Kottak. Kottak began his music career in the mid-1980s, recording his first tracks during that time.

Early Career and Kingdom Come

In 1988 and 1989, Kottak played drums on two albums for the band Kingdom Come. He then went on to record an album with Michael Lee Firkins in 1990. Kottak also collaborated with various artists, including "L.A. Blues Authority," "Michael Schenker Group," "Cage," and "Black Sheep."

Scorpions and Solo Endeavors

In 1996, Kottak joined the renowned band Scorpions after their previous drummer, Herman Rarebell, left. He played drums on six albums with Scorpions, becoming an integral part of the band. In May 2011, Kottak released the album "ATTACK" with his own band, Kottak, which shared the same name as his solo performances during Scorpions concerts.

Personal Life and Troubles

Kottak was previously married to Athena Lee, the sister of famous American musician Tommy Lee. On April 3, 2014, Kottak was arrested at Dubai Airport for disorderly conduct due to intoxication. He was fined two thousand dirhams and sentenced to one month in prison. After serving his sentence, Kottak was deported from the UAE.

Later Years and Death

In September 2016, Kottak left Scorpions due to health issues. He continued to pursue his music career and successfully performed in Brazil in 2008. Sadly, James Kottak passed away on January 9, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 61.
