Breakthrough Success
Burnett's first major victory came at the 1994 Benson & Hedges Championship, although it was a non-ranking event without top-16 players. His best result in a ranking event was reaching the final of the 2010 Shanghai Masters, where he lost 7-10 to Ali Carter.
Historic Moment
Burnett made history in 2004 when he compiled the highest break ever recorded on the main tour: 148 points. This remarkable achievement occurred during a qualifying match for the UK Championship against Leo Fernandez. Burnett cleared the table with a free ball, potting a brown as an extra red, followed by all 15 reds, 12 blacks, one blue, and two pinks. "I didn't really know how to react to it," Burnett said after the match. "At first, it didn't seem like a big deal, but then you realize you've made a little bit of history."

Burnett retired from professional snooker in 2021. He is remembered for his exceptional potting ability and his contributions to the sport, including his historic 148-point break.
