Early Life and Education

Little is known about the early life of Józef Kleczyński. He is believed to have studied in either Krakow or Lviv.

Venetian and Pressburg Years

In 1786, Kleczyński joined a private orchestra in Venice, where he remained until 1792. He then spent two years in Pressburg (Bratislava).

Vienna and Royal Opera

In 1795, Kleczyński settled in Vienna. From 1801, he played in the orchestra of the Viennese Court Opera. In 1804, he debuted as a conductor at the Kärntnertortheater.

Musical Society and Concerts

Simultaneously with his musical performances, Kleczyński became an active member of the Vienna Musical Society from 1803. From 1811, he led the society's concerts.

Legacy

Alongside Feliks Janiewicz, Kleczyński is considered one of the pioneers of the instrumental concerto genre (particularly the violin concerto) in Polish music.
