Biography of Jan Jongbloed
Jan Jongbloed is a former Dutch football player and goalkeeper who later became a football coach. He began his professional career with the Amsterdam-based club DWS in 1959. Jongbloed won the Dutch championship with this club. After the transformation of DWS into "Amsterdam", he continued to play for this team. He later played for "Roda" and "Go Ahead Eagles". He retired at the age of 45. Throughout his career in the Eredivisie, he played 707 matches.
International Career
Jan Jongbloed made his debut for the Dutch national team on September 26, 1962, coming on as a substitute in a match against the Danish national team. At that time, he was playing in the first division. After that, he was not called up to the national team for nearly 12 years. In 1974, the main goalkeeper of the national team, Jan van Beveren, was injured, and Rinus Michels unexpectedly decided to give Jongbloed the opportunity to play in goal ahead of the World Cup. Jongbloed helped the national team secure the second place in the tournament. He also participated in the 1978 World Cup, where the Dutch team once again finished as runners-up. Interestingly, he wore the unusual number "8" on his jersey in both tournaments, which is uncommon for goalkeepers. Although he was included in the squad for the 1976 European Championship, he did not play in any of the matches.
