Levi Colwill: A Rising Star in the English Footballing Scene
Early Career and Academy DaysBorn in Southampton, England, Levi Colwill began his footballing journey at the tender age of nine when he joined the Chelsea academy. Through the years, he honed his skills and developed into a promising central defender.
Loan Spell at Huddersfield Town
In June 2021, Colwill was sent on loan to Huddersfield Town in the EFL Championship. He made his professional debut in a penalty shootout win over Sheffield Wednesday in the EFL Cup. On August 21, 2021, he scored his first goal for Huddersfield. Despite battling through ankle, knee, and thigh injuries, as well as contracting COVID-19, Colwill played a significant role for the club.
The Heartbreak of the Championship Play-off Final
On May 29, 2022, Colwill scored an unfortunate own goal in Huddersfield's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off final, denying them promotion to the Premier League.
International Career
Colwill has represented England at the U-16 and U-17 levels, winning the Syrenka Cup in 2019 with the U-17 team. He was first called up to the U-21 squad in August 2021 and later made his debut for the U-19 team in November. In March 2022, he earned his first cap for the U-21s against Andorra.
Style of Play
Colwill's playing style has drawn comparisons to the legendary John Terry, with his composed defending, aerial prowess, and ability to play out from the back. As he continues to develop, he is poised to become a cornerstone of both the Chelsea and England national teams in the years to come.
