Early Career and Success on the World Cup

Janja Garnbret's journey into climbing began at a tender age of seven. By the age of eight, she was already competing at the national level. Her first major breakthrough came at the 2013 European Youth Bouldering Championships, where she emerged victorious.

In 2015, Garnbret made her debut at the IFSC World Cup, placing seventh overall in the Lead discipline. The same year, she excelled at prestigious bouldering competitions, winning the La Sportiva Legends Only and Melloblocco.

Dominance in Competition Climbing

The year 2016 marked a watershed moment in Garnbret's career. She triumphed in the majority of IFSC competitions, including the World Championships in Lead and Combined, while also winning both the Bouldering and Lead titles at the Youth World Championships. Her dominance continued in 2017, with victories in the World Cup Lead and Combined, the European Championships in Combined, and a silver medal in Bouldering at both the World and European Championships.

Historic Performance at the 2019 World Cup

In 2019, Garnbret made history at the World Bouldering Cup. She became the first athlete to win every single stage of the season, topping an incredible 74 of 78 boulders. Her performance was unprecedented in the annals of climbing.

Olympic Champion in Tokyo

Garnbret's Olympic debut at the 2020 Tokyo Games was a resounding success. She qualified for the final in all three disciplines: Speed (14th), Bouldering (1st), and Lead (4th). In the Combined Final, she showcased her exceptional skills, securing the gold medal with a dominant performance in Bouldering and Lead.

Outdoor Climbing

Beyond competitive sport, Garnbret is an accomplished outdoor climber, having ascended numerous challenging routes worldwide. Notably, she has conquered routes graded 8b (5.13d), 8c+ (5.14c), 9a (5.14d), and 9a+ (5.15a).
