Jared Francis Harris was born in London, England in 1961. He is one of three children of renowned Irish actor Richard Harris and his wife, Welsh actress Elizabeth Rees-Williams. Harris attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, USA, where he specialized in theater and literature, graduating in 1984.

After completing his education, Harris began his career at the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he had the opportunity to perform in many famous productions such as "Hamlet," "Romeo and Juliet," "Silent Woman," and "A Clockwork Orange."

In 1989, Harris made his film debut in his older brother Damian Harris's directorial debut, "The Rachel Papers." It is worth noting that his younger brother, Jamie Harris, also became an actor.

Throughout the 90s, Harris continued to work in film, mainly in supporting roles in numerous films. One of his most notable roles during this period was in Oliver Stone's 1994 film "Natural Born Killers." In 1995, he landed a leading role in Mary Harron's "I Shot Andy Warhol," where he portrayed the iconic American pop artist, Andy Warhol. Harris received critical acclaim for his portrayal of a disheveled Russian taxi driver in Todd Solondz's dark comedy-drama "Happiness." He also appeared in Steven Brill's comedy "Mr. Deeds" and the highly anticipated film "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" directed by Alexander Witt.

Over time, Jared Harris became one of the most prominent actors in contemporary cinema, securing roles in popular and commercially appealing projects. In 2008, he was cast in the Academy Award-winning fantasy drama "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," directed by David Fincher.

One of Harris's most successful and renowned roles came in the television series "Mad Men," where he portrayed Lane Pryce.

It is known that Jared Harris was married to Emilia Fox, the daughter of actors Edward Fox and Joanna David, from July 2005. However, they initiated divorce proceedings in January 2009 and finalized their divorce in the summer of 2010.
