Early Life and Junior Career
Jarmila Gajdošová, born on April 26, 1987, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia), began playing tennis at the age of seven. She achieved success in her junior career, reaching the semi-finals of two Grand Slam junior events: the 2003 Wimbledon Championships and the 2004 Australian Open. She also won the doubles title at the 2003 Italian Open Junior Championships alongside Andrea Hlaváčková.
Professional Career
Gajdošová made her WTA Tour debut in 2006 and won her first WTA title in 2008 at the Guangzhou International Women's Open. She achieved her highest singles ranking of 25 in May 2011 and her highest doubles ranking of 51 in July 2011. She notched three WTA singles titles in total.
Grand Slam Performances
In 2011, Gajdošová reached the third round of Wimbledon, defeating Alona Bondarenko in the second round. She also had notable performances at the Australian Open, reaching the second round in 2010 and 2011.
Australian Citizenship and Personal Life
In November 2009, Gajdošová became an Australian citizen. She was married to Australian tennis player Samuel Groth from 2009 to 2011. She speaks English, German, and Slovak and is currently learning Spanish.
