Early Life and Career Beginnings
Born to Slovak parents, Jarmila Gajdošová embarked on her tennis journey at the tender age of seven. Her brother, Jan, also pursued a career in sports, choosing skiing. Gajdošová's preferred playing surface was hard courts.
Professional Tennis Career
Gajdošová made her professional debut in 2001 at age 14. In 2002, she won her first ITF title in Morocco. She made her WTA Tour debut in Budapest in 2003, reaching the quarterfinals. In 2006, she qualified for her first Grand Slam, the Australian Open. She also won her first WTA title in doubles that year, partnering with Eva Birnerová in Stockholm.
Breakthrough and WTA Success
Gajdošová made significant strides in 2009, when she married Australian tennis player Sam Groth and began representing Australia. She reached the quarterfinals in Estoril and the third round at the French Open. In 2010, she achieved her first Grand Slam fourth round appearance at the French Open. She won her first WTA singles title in Guangzhou later that year.
Grand Slam Triumph and Career Highlights
Gajdošová reached the peak of her career in 2011. She won her second WTA title in Hobart and reached a career-high ranking of 25th in the world. She represented Australia in the Fed Cup and made her Olympic debut in London in doubles. In 2013, she achieved her greatest triumph, winning the Australian Open mixed doubles title with Matthew Ebden.
Later Career and Retirement
Gajdošová continued to compete in ITF tournaments but returned to the WTA Tour in 2015. She reached the semifinals of the Kuala Lumpur Open. In 2016, she married US pilot Adam Wolf and began using his surname in tournaments. Gajdošová retired from professional tennis in August 2016.
Personal Life
Gajdošová married Sam Groth in 2009 and divorced him in 2011. She married Adam Wolf in 2015. She has since retired from professional tennis and has focused on her family and personal interests.
