Early Life and Musical Influences
Early childhood:Jason Aldean was born on February 28, 1977, in Macon, Georgia. His parents, Barry and Debbie, divorced when he was three. Jason primarily grew up in Macon with his mother, Deb.
Father's musical influence:
During summer breaks, Jason would visit his father in Homestead, Florida. It was his father who first introduced him to guitar playing. Barry would draw chord diagrams on a notepad for Jason to practice during the day while he was at work. In the evenings, they would play together, exploring various genres including country, blues, and rock-and-roll.
Initial Performances and Career Aspirations
Aspiring musician:Jason's parents encouraged his musical pursuits. At age 14, after watching country music awards on television, he decided to pursue a career in music. With his mother's support, he performed at a local VFW hall in Macon.
Early stage experiences:
He began participating in talent shows and local fairs. At age 15, he joined a house band at a nightclub. After graduating high school, he formed his own band with his father's help.
Road to Nashville
Band and songwriting:Aldean and his band played throughout college towns in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and beyond. He began writing songs with fellow band member Justin Weaver.
Warner-Chappell and Nashville move:
In 1998, Michael Knox of Warner-Chappell Music offered Aldean a songwriting contract. At age 21, he relocated to Nashville on November 1, 1998.
Label disappointments:
Aldean was offered a record deal in Nashville, but it fell through. He later signed with a label in 2000, but his recordings were repeatedly postponed.
Breakthrough and Success
Broken Bow Records and debut album:After several unsuccessful auditions, Lawrence Mathis became Aldean's manager. Aldean gave himself a six-month deadline to succeed before returning to Georgia. Just five weeks later, he signed with Broken Bow Records. His debut album, "Jason Aldean," was released in 2005.
Platinum records and hit singles:
Aldean's debut album and 2009's "Wide Open" both achieved platinum status. "Relentless" (2007) went gold. Six of his singles have reached number one on the Hot Country Songs chart, including "Why," "She's Country," and "Dirt Road Anthem."
Current status:
Jason Aldean is married to Jessica Ussery and has two daughters, Keeley and Kendyl. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee. As of today, he has released four studio albums, one live album, one EP, 13 singles, and 12 music videos.
