Biography of Jay Gordon
Early CareerJay Gordon is an American musician and producer, best known as the vocalist of the synth-rock group Orgy. Before forming Orgy, Gordon worked with bands such as Lit and Deadsy, as well as collaborated with several popular rock musicians in a project called The Wondergirls. Notably, he has also worked with well-known musicians like Jonathan Davis of Korn, and bands such as Crazy Town, Coal Chamber, and Linkin Park.
Rise to Fame with Orgy
Orgy gained popularity through their collaboration with Elementree Records, founded by Korn, and their participation in the first Family Values Tour. Their mysterious, glam appearance and energetic stage presence played a crucial role in their popularity, making them "cover stars". Their debut album, Candyass, released in 1998, achieved great success, largely due to the popularity of the song "Blue Monday" and their first single, "Stitches". The tradition of including remixes on their singles, some of which were created by Gordon himself, continued with their subsequent releases.
Continued Success and Challenges
In 2000, Orgy released their second full-length album, Vapor Transmission, which also sold impressively, although it didn't surpass the immense success of their debut. After Vapor Transmission, the period that followed became challenging for the group. Orgy left Elementree and Reprise Records, with drummer Bobby Hewitt temporarily departing to join his brother, Fabu Fernandez, in the band Snake River Conspiracy before returning to Orgy. Four years passed between the release of Vapor Transmission and their third album, Punk Statik Paranoia, leaving fans uncertain if the group would ever release new material.
Solo and Label Ownership
In 2002, Jay Gordon performed the song "Slept So Long" for the soundtrack of the film "Queen of the Damned" due to contractual restrictions imposed on the composer, Jonathan Davis, preventing him from singing on the songs he wrote for the soundtrack. Gordon also appeared with Orgy on other soundtracks, such as the film "Zoolander," which featured the previously unreleased song "Faces". Currently, Jay Gordon, along with his father Lou Gordon, owns and operates the record label D-1 Music, on which the album Punk Statik Paranoia and the Orgy Trans Global Spectacle DVD were released. Orgy remains an active group, although all members are constantly involved in various side projects.
