Randy Castillo, one of Ozzy Osbourne's most enduring drummers, emerged as a captivating force in the music industry. Born on December 18, 1950, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, his passion for percussion began in high school. Along with drums, he dabbled in playing the trumpet and guitar.
Musical Odyssey
Castillo ventured to Los Angeles in the 1980s, seeking a place in a reputable band. He performed with the Motels and joined Runaway in 1984, but conflicts led him to leave. His exceptional drumming skills garnered attention, and through connections, he crossed paths with Ozzy Osbourne.
Collaboration with Ozzy Osbourne
In dire need of a proficient drummer, Osbourne invited Castillo to join his band in the mid-1980s. Castillo played a pivotal role in the creation of several iconic albums, including "The Ultimate Sin," "No Rest for the Wicked," "Just Say Ozzy," "No More Tears," and "Live and Loud." He joined Osbourne on numerous global tours, becoming an indispensable member of the band.
Creative Hiatus and Return
In the 1990s, Castillo parted ways with Osbourne and retreated into relative obscurity. Occasionally collaborating with other groups, his work during this period received less attention. However, in 1999, Osbourne invited him back to record the album "New Tattoo."
Tragic Departure
In 2000, Castillo was diagnosed with cancer and underwent intensive treatment. Initially, his prognosis was positive. However, the disease returned in 2002, and Castillo passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 26, 2002.
