Biography of Jay Nixon
Jay Nixon, born Jeremiah Wilson 'Jay' Nixon in 1956, is an American politician and the 55th governor of the state of Missouri. He was born in De Soto, Missouri, to a family of a mayor and a teacher. Raised with strong family values and faith, Nixon placed great importance on these principles throughout his political career.

Career as Attorney General
Nixon began his political career as the Attorney General of Missouri in 1992, where his work was highly esteemed. He was reelected to this position in 1996, 2000, and 2004, setting a record for four consecutive reelections in the United States. His relentless fight against corruption and public crimes earned him respect and admiration.

Unsuccessful Senate Races
In addition to his role as Attorney General, Nixon made unsuccessful bids for the United States Senate in 1988 and 1998, losing to Republican Kit Bond. However, his position as Attorney General remained solid, and he was widely respected for his unwavering commitment to consumer protection. One of his most popular programs was the consumer rights protection initiative. Nixon also gained recognition for his involvement in the lawsuit against tobacco companies, which significantly boosted the state's budget. Public safety was another priority for him, as he firmly believed that a safe community is a crucial aspect of a healthy society.
Governorship
In November 2008, at the age of 44, Jay Nixon, representing the Democratic Party, assumed the role of the 55th governor of Missouri. He won the election with 58.40% of the votes, defeating his main opponent, Republican Kenny Hulshof, who received 39.49% of the votes. Notably, Nixon managed to secure the position in a traditionally Republican state, thereby disrupting the balance of power in the Senate, which was unfavorable for the Republican Party.
Priorities as Governor
During his tenure as governor, Jay Nixon focused on various areas of life, including healthcare, education, job creation, and environmental protection. In his first year in office, he provided unprecedented funding for Missouri schools. The state's education system was one of his top priorities. Nixon has been married to Georganne Nixon for over two decades, and they have two sons. The entire family are members of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City.
