Jay Pickett was an American actor born in Spokane, Washington, and raised in Caldwell, Idaho. He pursued his passion for acting at Boise State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts, and later obtained a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the University of California, Los Angeles. Pickett's involvement in numerous theatrical productions during his time at both institutions laid the foundation for his successful career.

Television Appearances

Jay Pickett's television credits include notable roles in the miniseries "Rags to Riches" and guest appearances in popular series such as "China Beach," "Mr. Belvedere," "Dragnet," "Jake and the Fatman," "Days of Our Lives," "Perry Mason," and "Matlock." In 1997, he joined the ABC Daytime drama "Port Charles" as Frank Scanlon, a dedicated paramedic and substitute teacher, and the complex older brother of Joe Scanlon.

Soap Opera Legacy

In 2006, Pickett took over the role of Lorenzo Alcazar in "General Hospital," the parent soap opera of "Port Charles," replacing actor Ted King. He later returned to "General Hospital" in 2007 in the recurring role of Detective David Harper.

Personal Life and Interests

Beyond his acting career, Pickett had a passion for sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and skiing. He was also an accomplished roper and Western equestrian. Pickett resided in California with his wife, Elena, and their children, Megan, Mikaela, and Tyler. Notably, he was the best friend of his former "Port Charles" co-star Michael Dietz and the godfather of his daughter, Madison.

Tragic Demise

In 2021, Pickett's life was tragically cut short while filming the Western movie "Treasure Valley." He suffered a fatal heart attack while sitting on a horse, awaiting the start of a rodeo scene. According to Jim Heffel, a fellow cast member, Pickett died doing what he loved: "Jay died sitting on a horse, ready to rope a steer in the movie 'Treasure Valley' in Idaho. The way he always wanted to go out."
