Jean-Victor Adam: A French Lithographer and Painter

Jean-Victor Adam was a renowned French lithographer and painter. Born as the son of a prominent copperplate engraver, he gained recognition with his exhibited painting in 1819 titled "Hermione Taking Care of the Wounded Tancred".

Artistic Style

Acting in the spirit of the Restoration period, Adam chose subjects from ancient French history, primarily scenes from the life of Henry IV, although they were relatively insignificant. However, he found greater success with scenes from the Revolution and the Napoleonic campaigns, which he focused on until 1838. Some of his best works are displayed in the Versailles Gallery.

Later Years

After his ventures in painting, Adam's artistic pursuits shifted towards lithography. He continued to work in this medium until his passing on January 1, 1867, in Viroflay, near Paris.
