In 1929, while preparing to return to Broadway for a new play, Eagles unexpectedly passed away at a private clinic in New York City at the age of 39. The medical examiner was unable to determine the exact cause of her death, but the media speculated about the actress's alleged substance abuse issues, including alcohol and heroin.

Posthumous Recognition

Despite her untimely passing, Eagles' talent was recognized posthumously. She was nominated for an Academy Award (the first in cinematic history) for her performance in the film "The Letter," starring Mary Pickford.
