Jeb Patton: A Jazz Prodigy
Early Education and InfluencesJeb Patton, an acclaimed American jazz pianist, received his formal music education at Duke University in North Carolina, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts and Science in Music. His mentors during his time there included renowned pianist and musicologist Tibor Szasz, Douglas Byus, and Professor Jane Hawkins.
Rise in the Jazz Community
Patton's exceptional talent and dedication propelled him to prominence within the international jazz community. As a member of Duke Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Paul Jeffrey, he collaborated with dozens of professional jazz musicians, including renowned artists from New York City and abroad.
Graduate Studies and Collaborations
In 1997, Patton earned a Master of Music degree with honors from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College in New York City. He studied under legendary pianist Roland Hanna and Jimmy Heath, a founding member of The Heath Brothers. During his graduate studies, he received the Louis Armstrong Composition Award from the ASCAP Foundation.
Global Tours and Performances
Following his graduation, Patton toured extensively with The Heath Brothers and Jimmy Heath's Generations Quintet. He performed at prestigious venues, festivals, and concert halls in the United States and internationally. In 1996, he relocated to New York City, where he has since performed with renowned artists such as Etta Jones, The Faddis-Hampton-Heath Sextet, and Antonio Hart's quintet.
Versatility and Accolades
Patton's versatility extends beyond his exceptional piano playing. He is also a gifted arranger and a highly sought-after accompanist. His performances have been celebrated at renowned festivals around the world, including the Savannah Music Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and the Newport Jazz Festival.
Teaching and Advocacy
In addition to his active performance career, Patton shares his passion for music through teaching. He currently serves as a piano instructor at Queensborough Community College at the City University of New York and lectures on the history of jazz.
