Biography of Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett is an American professional wrestler, known for his performances in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, and World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment. He was born on July 14, 1967, in Hendersonville, Tennessee, USA.

Early Life and Career

In his school years, Jeff excelled in basketball and played for his school team. However, he ultimately chose a different path in sports. Under the guidance of his father and Tojo Yamamoto, he began training as a wrestler. Jeff comes from a family of wrestlers, with his father and grandfather having also stepped into the ring, and his grandmother having been involved in organizing tournaments.

At the age of 18, Jeff made his debut as a wrestler when he accepted a challenge from Tony Falk during a match where he was working as a referee. He then competed in the USWA heavyweight division and tag team competitions, winning numerous matches. He also traveled the world as an independent wrestler, touring countries like Japan and Puerto Rico. In 1993, he received an offer to sign a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF).

WWF and WCW

In WWF, Jeff portrayed the character "Double J," a country singer who used wrestling as a platform to further his musical career. He won the Intercontinental Championship in 1995, but his reign was short-lived due to disqualifications and disputed match outcomes. Jarrett became a three-time Intercontinental Champion during this time. However, he left WWF temporarily to compete in the United States Wrestling Association before returning and eventually departing due to contract issues.

In October 1996, Jarrett signed a one-year contract with World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and won the heavyweight championship in June 1997. After losing the title, he returned to WWF and publicly criticized both WCW and WWF management. He won the North American Heavyweight Championship in honor of Owen Hart, who tragically passed away, before leaving WWF for WCW again.

Later Career

Jeff Jarrett continued his wrestling career in various promotions, including the World Wrestling All-Stars, where he won the World Heavyweight Championship. Since 2002, he has been performing in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA), an organization he co-founded with his father. He has won and lost the NWA championships multiple times and has taken breaks from in-ring competition to focus on administrative roles within TNA.

In 2008, Jarrett's on-screen rivalry with Kurt Angle became a prominent storyline, involving demands to be fired from TNA, in-ring battles, and personal confrontations. Despite several matches between them, their tense relationship remained unresolved. Currently, Jeff has temporarily stepped away from appearing in TNA broadcasts, but he is expected to return in early 2010.

In his personal life, Jeff married his high school sweetheart, Jill, in 1992, and they have three daughters. Sadly, Jill passed away in 2007 after battling breast cancer. It is rumored that Jeff is currently in a relationship with Karen Angle, the ex-wife of Kurt Angle.
