Biography of Jeffrey Gundlach
Jeffrey Gundlach is an American investor, founder, and CEO of investment firm DoubleLine Capital. Known for his business skills, Gundlach earned the nickname "The Bond King" as he previously led the TCW Total Return Bond Fund, which was valued at over $9.5 billion. Born on October 30, 1959, Gundlach grew up in a modest family in Buffalo. His father worked as a chemist in a company that produced lubricants for bowling alleys, while his mother was a homemaker. Despite his family's financial struggles, Gundlach compensated by excelling academically and being diligent.

Early Life and Education
Gundlach was always the top student in his class, particularly excelling in mathematics. He was accepted into Dartmouth, where he specialized in finance and graduated with honors in 1981. He later attended Yale University to study applied mathematics and intended to pursue a doctoral degree. However, after two years, Gundlach decided to leave everything behind and move to California.

In California, Gundlach worked as a drummer for a rock band called "Radical Flats" and earned a living as an insurance salesman. After observing the lives of the rich and famous on a small black and white television, Gundlach decided to become an investment banker. He opened the phone book, found the section for investment managers, and scheduled an interview with TCW.
The Rise in the Investment Industry
Although Gundlach had no knowledge of investments, TCW was impressed by his mathematical abilities and offered him a job. By his first day of work, Gundlach had already studied significant works in investment analytics and soon knew more than many who had been working at TCW for years. Within a couple of years, Jeffrey earned a reputation as an investment prodigy, and the company entrusted him with managing a significant sum of half a billion dollars.
DoubleLine Capital and Controversy
In 2009, TCW unexpectedly fired Gundlach, their most effective investment manager. After completing a successful workday in December, Gundlach went to a meeting with the company's management, only to be greeted by a lawyer with documents accusing him of attempting to steal clients, use insider information, and poach employees to create his own competing firm. By this time, his phone had already been disconnected.
When Gundlach returned to his office, he found his desk drawers had been broken into. Later, representatives from TCW claimed to have found a collection of pornography, sexual toys, and marijuana paraphernalia in his desk. The next morning, 15 senior managers from Gundlach's team showed up at his home. With no other option, he was forced to start his own competing firm. Today, he manages his clients' assets through DoubleLine Capital and is listed as one of the 50 most influential people in his field.
