Biography of Elena Jankovic

Early Life and Career

Elena Jankovic is a Serbian tennis player who was born on February 28, 1985 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. She began her tennis career in 2000 and quickly rose through the ranks. In 2006, she reached the semi-finals of the U.S. Open, which propelled her into the top 15 of the WTA rankings.

Rise to Prominence

Jankovic continued to excel in the following years. In early 2007, she reached the semi-finals of the Roland Garros and achieved a career-high ranking of 3rd in the world. She also had success in doubles, winning Wimbledon in 2007 with partner Jamie Murray.

International Success

In 2008, Jankovic started the year strong by reaching the finals of the Hopman Cup alongside Novak Djokovic. She followed that up with impressive runs to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. Prior to the Beijing Olympics, she surpassed her fellow Serbian player Ana Ivanovic and became the 18th female tennis player to hold the world number one ranking.
