Early Career

Elle Van Damme commenced his football journey in the youth ranks of Beveren before transitioning to Lokeren's youth system. His professional debut came in 2001 for Germinal Beerschot, where he made his first appearance in a match against Gent on November 24th, 2001.

Dutch Interlude

In February 2002, Van Damme joined Dutch giants Ajax. His Eredivisie debut occurred in a match against Sparta Rotterdam on April 14th, 2002, as a late substitute in a comfortable 4-0 victory. He featured more prominently during the 2002/03 season, making 11 appearances. In 2004, he celebrated a league triumph with Ajax.

Premier League Stint and Loan

Van Damme sought a new challenge in England with Southampton in 2004. Despite making his Premier League debut against Chelsea on August 28th, 2004, he failed to establish himself as a regular, only playing in 6 matches during his tenure. In 2005, he was loaned to German club Werder Bremen, where he featured in 8 matches and scored 1 goal.

Return to Belgium and Success

Van Damme returned to his homeland in 2006, joining Anderlecht. In his debut season, he played in 24 matches and claimed the Belgian league title. The following season, he helped Anderlecht achieve a league runner-up finish and won the Belgian Cup.

Interest from Abroad

During the 2009 winter transfer window, several European clubs, including Russian side Rubin Kazan, expressed interest in Van Damme. However, Anderlecht's general manager confirmed that he would not leave the club mid-season.

Contract Extension

On June 1st, 2010, Van Damme signed a three-year contract extension with Anderlecht, with an option for an additional year.

International Career

Van Damme made his international debut for Belgium in a 4-0 loss to Croatia on March 29th, 2003.
