Jennette Michelle Faye McCurdy, born on June 26, 1992, is an American film and television actress, singer-songwriter, and country-pop singer. She is best known for her role as Sam Puckett on the Nickelodeon show "iCarly". McCurdy has also appeared in popular series such as "Zoey 101", "Malcolm in the Middle", "Will & Grace", "Strong Medicine", "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit", "The Inside", "True Jackson, VP", and "Judging Amy".
Early Life and Career
Jennette McCurdy was born in Garden Grove, California. She grew up with three older brothers, three dogs, and two turtles. Her interest in acting was sparked by Harrison Ford's performance in "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope". McCurdy began her acting career at the age of 8 on the show MADtv. Three years later, she had the opportunity to work with her idol, Harrison Ford, in the movie "Hollywood Homicide".
In 2005, McCurdy was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her role as Hailey Campos in "Strong Medicine". She later appeared in various television commercials, including a Sprint ad and a social project on traffic rules. Since 2007, she has portrayed one of the main characters in the show "iCarly". Her role as Sam Puckett earned her another Young Artist Award nomination in 2008. McCurdy was also nominated for the same award in the same year for her role in the TV film "The Last Day of Summer". In 2009, she was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for her role in "iCarly".
Music Career
In June 2008, McCurdy announced on her official website that she was working on her debut album. Her first single, "So Close", was released on March 10, 2009, followed by "Homeless Heart" on May 19. "Homeless Heart" was dedicated to her friend Cody Waters, who had passed away shortly before. 20% of the album's sales went to the Cody Waters Memorial Fund. Despite originally planning to release her debut album on June 30, 2009, McCurdy signed a contract with Capitol Records on July 6.
On April 16, 2010, excerpts from her upcoming album were released, and fans had the opportunity to vote for which song would become the first single. "Not That Far Away" was chosen as the winning song and was released on radio on May 24. It became available on iTunes on June 1. On August 16, an extended edition of the album was released, featuring new songs such as "Stronger", "Put Your Arms Around Someone", "Break Your Heart", and "Me with You".
Charitable Activities
In addition to the Cody Waters Memorial Fund, McCurdy actively supports the "Invisible Children Inc" movement and the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
