Early Life and Training

Kim Jennie was born on January 16, 1996, in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. At the age of 9, she moved to New Zealand for education. In 2006, Jennie appeared in the MBC documentary "English, Must Change to Survive." In 2010, she returned to Korea and successfully auditioned for YG Entertainment, joining the agency as a trainee.

Pre-Debut Collaborations

Prior to her debut, Jennie participated in projects by other YG artists. In 2012, she featured on Lee Hi's "Special" and appeared in G-Dragon's "That XX" music video. In 2013, Kim featured on G-Dragon's single "Black" and Seungri's song "GG Be." Notably, in 2012, the agency announced an upcoming girl group debut, and Jennie was mentioned as a potential member.

Debut with BLACKPINK and Solo Career (2016-2018)

On May 18, 2016, YG Entertainment revealed Jennie as a member of a new girl group called BLACKPINK, the first since 2NE1's debut in 2009. In late June, full group teasers were released featuring the remaining members Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa. At the debut showcase, YG founder Yang Hyun Suk declared that the group would operate without a leader, as "all the members are potential leaders." Jennie assumed the roles of main rapper and lead vocalist. BLACKPINK released two single albums ("Square One" and "Square Two"), the single "As If It's Your Last," and a mini-album ("Square Up").

In mid-October 2018, YG Entertainment announced solo projects for all BLACKPINK members, with Jennie set to release her material first. She debuted her solo single for the first time on November 11 at the group's concert in Seoul. On November 12, the digital single "Solo" was released on all music platforms. The song achieved Certified All-Kill status and topped iTunes charts in 40 countries, a record among South Korean female soloists. Jennie also became the first South Korean female singer to top the iTunes Global Combined Artist chart. The music video recorded over 14 million views in its first 24 hours, setting a record for South Korean female acts.

World Tour and Group Activities (2019-Present)

Following her solo debut, YG Entertainment announced a world tour spanning North America, Europe, and Australia. On March 26, Jennie's photo teaser for BLACKPINK's upcoming comeback with the mini-album "KILL THIS LOVE" was released.

Personal Life and Influence

Musical Influence:Jennie cites Barbadian singer Rihanna as her biggest musical inspiration.

Endorsements and Brands:In December 2017, Jennie became the new global face of Chanel for 2018. She was also named the new face of Chanel Beauty in the August 2018 issue of Korean Cosmopolitan, following Mischa Barton.

Relationship:Jennie was in a relationship with EXO's Kai from October 2018 to January 2019.
