Biography of Jennifer Ko
Jennifer Ko is an American violinist of Korean descent. Born to parents who immigrated to the United States from Korea in the 1960s, Jennifer showed exceptional talent in music from a young age.
Early Success
Jennifer Ko quickly gained recognition as she consistently won various music competitions. She achieved first prize at the First International Tchaikovsky Youth Competition in 1992 and received the second prize (as the first prize was not awarded) at the adult Tchaikovsky Competition two years later. Her performances were highly praised by Russian music critics, including Piotr Pospelov.
Connection with Russia
Jennifer Ko maintained her connection with Russia throughout her career. She was the dedicatee of Andrei Eshpai's Fourth Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and premiered it in St. Petersburg in 1996. She also performed the concerto at the Moscow Conservatory's Great Hall for the composer's 75th anniversary.
Further Education
After completing her studies at Oberlin College, Jennifer Ko continued her education at the Curtis Institute under the guidance of Jaime Laredo. She also took several lessons with Felix Galimir in the late 1990s.
Repertoire
Jennifer Ko's repertoire has increasingly focused on 20th-century music. Her recordings include violin concertos by Béla Bartók, Karol Szymanowski, and Bohuslav Martinů, as well as works by Arnold Schoenberg and Gian Carlo Menotti.
